Early life and formative years

Although Mam was born in Sydney, his family has Aboriginal roots from Far North Queensland. He relocated to Queensland in his early years and was raised in Ipswich. His natural feel for the game first became evident when he began playing junior rugby league with the Goodna Eagles.

He enrolled at Ambrose Treacy College in Indrooroopilly, Brisbane. He also took part in the rugby union for the first XV team there. When he was 13, he agreed to the proposal to join the Brisbane Broncos’ rugby league development system. 

Climbing the ranks through junior competitions

In 2021, Ezra Mam showed outstanding performance in the Intrust Super Cup for the Souths Logan Magpies, where he had a remarkable season. He scored thirteen tries, eight try assists, and seven goals in just 11 games. Because of his stellar performances, he also received the award of Rookie of the Year. 

NRL debut and seasons with the Brisbane Broncos

2022 season 

  • Ezra Mam made his debut in Round 11 of 2022 and scored two tries in the 36-12 win over Newcastle. 
  • In round 12, he achieved success on the first attempt in the competition with the Gold Coast Titans. 
  • He played 13 games for Brisbane all over the year and scored six tries.
  • Brisbane successfully finished the solid 2022 season in ninth place. 

2023 NRL season

Same as the 2022 season, Mam continued to demonstrate his skills in the 2023 NRL season as well. 

  • In Round 2 of the 2023 season, Mam crossed the line twice during Brisbane’s 28–16 victory over long-time rivals North Queensland.
  • In round 8, during the Brisbane 26-16 success, he was sent to the dangerous contact on Parramatta’s Matt Doorey. 
  • In round 22, he notched two tries in Brisbane’s 32-10 triumph against the Sydney Roosters. 

The 2023 season was a breakout year in which Ezra Mam played 25 games and achieved eighteen tries to reach the peak of five-eighth in a season. He scored a second-half hat trick in the Grand Finale of the 2023 NRL season.

2024 season

In the 2024 season, just like in other seasons, Ezra did not stop himself from showing his talent on the field.

  • In Round 5, he bagged a double despite Brisbane’s narrow 32–34 loss to Melbourne.
  • Over the 2024 campaign, he featured in 19 matches and recorded nine tries for the Broncos.

2025 NRL season

  • In round 11 of the 2025 season, Mam came back to the Brisbane side in the 30-26 to be defeated by St. George Illawarra. 
  • In the next week, he was heckled every time he touched the ball in Brisbane’s 34-6 defeat to Manly at Brookvale Oval. 
  • Queensland contentiously selected him on June 9, 2025, for competition two of the 2025 State of Origin series. He was designated as a supplementary player.

He was allegedly engaged in a dispute with a fan in Bali in October 2024. He lost control of the car, which ultimately resulted in a head-on car crash that injured three people. He was charged with a traffic violation notice for not controlling the vehicle. 

On 16 December 2024, he attended the Brisbane Magistrates Court on the allegations of driving without a licence and having the relevant drug in his blood. Mam confessed his guilt and was fined $850, along with a suspension from driving for six months. He subsequently received a suspension that ruled him out of nine Broncos games in the 2025 season. He was also fined $30,000 by the NRL for harming the reputation of both the game and the club.

Furthermore, he was also fined $90,000 by the Brisbane Broncos and was obligated to take on safer driving programs, community-based learning, and continuous welfare assistance.
